The Hochkönig rises up over Dienten, providing a stunning backdrop and glimpses of the high alpine from the small village centre.
The village is ideal for families, with endless space to explore and nearby organised activities for children such as treasure hunts and rock climbing giving you time to put your feet up and feel truly away from it all.
Dienten has a very traditional alpine feel with narrow streets, old wooden buildings and inviting places to have an evening meal and drink. There are several restaurants serving classic Austrian food, and a great pizzeria in the village centre. Our personal recommendation is the Deantna Almhüttn, just 5 minutes down the road from the chalet, where you can get hearty meals, a friendly welcome and enjoy some local schnapps.
There is a small supermarket for all your self catering needs, a bakery with a cafe and a bank with cash machine. Both Saalfelden and Bischofshofen are within 30 minutes and provide a range of larger shops and supermarkets, ideal for stocking up before you arrive.
One place you should be sure to visit during your stay is Grünegg Alm. Perched high above the village on the mountainside there is something for everyone, regardless of the season. In the summer, enjoy traditional local cuisine with views of the Hochkönig from the terrace whilst the children play or visit the small animal zoo. In winter you can sample the award winning schnapps distilled on the premises before sliding down the mountain on the 1.5km toboggan run!
